How to back up suspended Google Workspace users

Suspended Google Workspace users are marked as archived and suspended in Afi and are shown as greyed out on the Service → Protection tab.

Google API access for suspended users is disabled, therefore, to back up data for a suspended Google Workspace user, it should first be reactivated on the Google Workspace side. Once the user backup is finished, it can be suspended again or even deleted - Afi will preserve its backup according to the configured archiving settings (indefinetely by default).

To reactivate a suspended Google Workspace user and back it up with Afi, please follow the steps below:

  1. Log in to the Google Workspace Admin panel, locate the user on the Directory → Users tab, and reactivate it.

    Notice

For security reasons, you might want to revoke the user's password before the reactivation if it hadn't been done before the user suspension.

  2. Trigger an out-of-schedule resource synchronization with Google Workspace by clicking on the refresh icon in the top-right corner of the Service → Protection tab to update the user status.

  3. Assign a backup SLA policy to the user and run a backup.
