Team Channels

Afi backup for Team Channels contains public, private, and shared channels for a team, as well as team and channel membership settings, and preserves channel posts and replies hierarchy. Channel messages are backed up together with attachments (files, images, gifs, videos, etc.), reactions, stickers, user mentions, message importance statuses, adaptive cards, custom formatting elements (tables, lists, etc.), as well as system event messages.

Browse

Files associated with a team channel are backed up together with the corresponding channel messages when they are linked to messages as attachments as well as a part of the corresponding SharePoint site.

Public channel files can be found under the folder named after the corresponding channel in the Documents library inside the SharePoint site section in a team backup:

Private channel files can be found under the folder named after the corresponding channel in the Documents library inside a backup for the system SharePoint site associated with this channel. For example, the screenshot below shows the Confidential folder inside the Mark 8 Project Team - Confidential SharePoint site backup that contains files for the Confidential private channel in the Mark 8 Project Team team:

Notice

Afi doesn't automatically protect system SharePoint sites associated with channels in a protected team, so Afi account administrators should protect such sites themselves either manually or by protecting the Sites resource group on the Service → Protection → AAD Groups tab.

Afi provides full-text search across channel messages contents and message attachment names as well as allows to look up messages sent by or mentioning a specific user. Also, search scope can be limited to messages sent during a specified time period.

This example shows a basic search query to find all channel messages that contain the term overview across the team's channel messages:

Here is a more advanced example with a search query to find channel messages that contain the term overview, authored by a user with the Megan term in their name/email, and sent between the 1st and 31st January 2024:

Export

Team Channels data can be exported in HTML format as a ZIP archive, which contains per-channel folders with the channel's HTML export as well as its messages attachments. A user can select individual channels or channel messages, as well as all channels in a team, for export.

The screenshots below show an example of Team Channels export structure and contents:

Recovery

Afi allows to restore Team Channels backup data to a new team with the specified name and owner. When the Restore access permissions option is enabled, the original team members are added as members to a new team, otherwise, a new team is created with only the specified owner as a team member.

Upon a recovery, channel posts and replies hierarchy and timeline are fully restored with messages preserving their original authors and sent dates. Message attachments, user mentions, message importance statuses, as well as custom formatting elements (tables, lists, etc.) are restored as well.

Notice

Private and shared channels recovery is not supported at the moment.

The screenshot below shows an example of a team restored by the Afi service:
