Microsoft 365 app launcher for self-service users¶
With the Afi Microsoft 365 Backup application, Microsoft 365 administrators can enable self-service recovery capabilities for Microsoft 365 users allowing them to access their backups as well as launch export and restore jobs. Self-service capabilities not only remove the burden of processing data recovery tickets from Afi administrators but also allow users to access their data without any delay, which is critical in urgent cases. You can learn more about the Afi self-service capabilities and the role model in this article.
When setting up self-service access with Afi, a Microsoft 365 administrator can decide to show the Afi application only to specific users or groups. This article explains how to configure the Afi application visibility through the Entra ID (Azure Active Directory) portal.
Show Afi application only to assigned Microsoft 365 users and groups¶
-
Go to the Entra ID portal and locate the Afi application on the Enterprise Applications tab.
-
Go to the Users and Groups tab, then click on the +Add user/group button to add users or groups to the application.
After the configuration is finished, the assigned users will see the Afi application in the Microsoft 365 app launcher and at the My Apps portal (in rare cases it might take a few minutes before the changes are propagated through the Microsoft 365 eco-system and the application becomes visible to the assigned users).
Hide the Afi application from all Microsoft 365 users¶
By default, the Afi application will be visible through the Microsoft 365 app launcher to all Microsoft 365 users assigned to the application on the Users and Groups tab (see the Visible to users toggle on the application's Properties tab). To hide the Afi application from all Microsoft 365 users in the tenant, you need to switch this toggle to No.
Restrict Microsoft 365 user access to the Afi application¶
The settings described above affect only the application visibility, but users not assigned to the Afi application can still access it via a direct link and log in to the Afi portal (although their access will still be restricted according to the permissions configuration on the Afi side). Microsoft 365 administrators can fully restrict the access to the Afi application only to the assigned users by switching the User assignment required? toggle on the application's Properties tab. With this toggle set to Yes, only the users assigned to the Afi application will be able to log in to the Afi portal.
